Update

June 1, 2005

Thanks to Doug Wood and Brian Cressman for the following general updates on upcoming FoDW activities:

June 4th Work Day:

Mark Your Calendar - Saturday June 4 Dicken Woods Nature Area Stewardship Workday, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
We will spend the morning in Dicken Woods removing the invasives that usurp valuable light and nutrients from other plants, and we'll have a great time doing it! If you are driving, meet us at the Dicken Elementary school parking lot, off of Runnymede Boulevard. If you are arriving on foot, we'll see you at the end of Dicken Drive. At the end of the workday we'll spend a little time exploring the ecology of Dicken Woods. Please wear comfortable clothes for outdoor work, including pants and closed-toe shoes. Minors must either be accompanied by a guardian or contact NAP in advance to obtain a release form.

June 24/25 Fund Raiser Garage Sale
The annual fundraiser garage sale will take place on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th. This is The Friends’ only means of raising money this year to fund the various classroom grants, stewardship activities, and events that allow us to introduce the woods to those neighbors who may not even know it exists.

Donations!
Start thinking about what you may have around the house or the garage that you would like to donate. This is a fantastic way to support the group while getting rid of some things that you have been tripping over. Any items that you would like to donate can be dropped off between June 17th and June 22nd at 1450 Las Vegas Drive on the corner of Runnymede. Just set the donations in front of the large garage door where they will be sheltered from any rain. We appreciate any items (big or small) that you think would be saleable. If you are unable to move any items yourself then you can arrange for a pickup by emailing me. While this is a great way to get rid of extra clutter in your home, we really would like to discourage people from dropping off adult clothing, tins, baskets, puzzles, or damaged or broken items. Unfortunately, these things do not sell very well. If you are in doubt about any items you can contact this email address to discuss whether or not you should include them in your donation. Also, if you have large collections of books or records please email ahead of time to check if they are needed.

Volunteers!
We can use all sorts of help. Greeting people, moving items, pricing items, cashing people out, etc. You can come by for just an hour or stay the whole day if you like and help in whatever way you wish. Can you think of a better way to meet all sorts of people from our neighborhood? If you would like to help just let me know what time slot you would like to sign up for during the following schedule:

Friday, June 24th: 7-9am set up, 9am-6pm sale hours (5pm –6pm closing up) Saturday, June 25th: 8-9 set up, 9am-5pm sale hours (4pm-6pm take down*)

*We also need a couple of people with a pickup truck or a mini van who would be willing to help us with the Saturday afternoon takedown in which we deliver any remaining items to a close-by charity.

Do you have a mini van or a pickup truck but won't be around on that Saturday? We also could use your help for an hour on the Thursday just prior to the sale for picking up items from people who are unable to drop them off. Email me (dickensale@hotmail.com) for details!

Thanks so much and don't forget to stop by for the sale!
