Dicken Elementary Cub Scout Pack 13 Chipping Project.
Raised sunken boardwalk nearest school and chipped approaches; chipped
center bisecting trail. Used up entire chip reserve! (30 in-park
volunteer work hours - 10 scouts, 5 adult leaders, and Doug Wood,
approximately 2 hours) |

Replaced chips that had eroded out of stream
crossings and refrozen to the ground; trimmed branches at face level on
entire trail loop; removed a 4” dead tree that had fallen across the
west trail loop. The damage was caused by heavy rain the week of 2/12.

Stewardship Plan accepted by Friends of Dicken Woods general membership

with descriptive information, stewardship strategies, and short-term (1

Annual Spring Spruce-Up Day. Cut guard rail into
pieces for pickup by NAP. Cut up large logs from trees that have fallen
across the trails over the past couple of years & laid them down as
trail edging, pulled Dames Rocket, picked up all the trash, tilled the
soil between the end of Carol and the guardrail in preparation of
starting our wildflower seed/root stock bank, put up a new set of
temporary directional map markers and checked on all the plantings we
put in last fall. Accepted donated cut leaf coneflowers for wildflower

Planted the rubeckia (cut-leaf coneflower) that was
given to us by Andrew Comai. Put 4 clumps near the end of Dicken,1
clump by the bridge, 2 clumps near the tadpole pond, & saved 2
clumps for the Carol St garden to be planted June 5 by the Dicken
students. Noted new wild geraniums on west trail loop in old orchard

Native Plant Nursery. Planted Culvers Root, Woodland Sunflower, Nodding
Wild Onion, New England Aster, Thimbleweed, Black eyed Susan, Cutleaved
Coneflower, Golden Alexander, Smooth Aster, Beardtongue Foxglove, and
Rudbeckia Triloba (Three lobed Coneflower). (4 in-park volunteer hours -
Stephanie Hunter, Inge Ferguson, 3 teachers and parent chaperones, 25
students from Carol Dekeizer’s 2nd grade class). |

Area at end of Dicken Drive weeded and brush
growing from the chipped area removed. Eighty plus wildflower plugs
(purchased form the Native Plant Nursery) planted, mostly at the end of
Dicken Drive. They were planted in groups and have been mulched and
identified with a name tag and green bamboo stick, so are easy to spot.
Additionally, the area around the sign at the corner of S. Maple and
Pauline cleaned up (weeded and buckthorn trimmed behind the sign, edged
chips to provide clear visual boundary for mowing) and 10 black-eyed
