Meeting Minutes 07/26/2012

Friends of Dicken Woods General Assembly

for the July 26, 2012 meeting at the Boyd residence.

Members present: Jim Boyd, Brian Cressman, Mary Duff-Silverman, Stephanie Hunter, Debbie Johnson, Deb Norbotten, Marian Williams, Doug Wood.

The meeting was called to order by Jim Boyd at 7:33 pm.

1. Winter Walk:
Stephanie Hunter said that the past Winter Walk was very well attended, with a count of nearly 500. However, it's getting too big and expensive for the FoDW to manage alone, with refreshments costing at least $300. The Dicken PTO has agreed to do the inside work next year, including serving hot chocolate and cookies, while the FoDW will continue to do the outdoor portion. We will do a slideshow again, which went well last year. The group also discussed the bridge from the school grounds to the woods that was hazardous on last year's walk. It's on school property.

2. Fall work day: October 27 from 10 am - 1 pm.
Bagels, coffee, and water will be provided. Stephanie Hunter and Mary Duff-Silverman will meet with NAP to see what needs to be done.

3. Grant money for Dicken School:
FoDW will most likely donate $1,000 to the Leslie Science & Nature Center for nature programs for students, since this has worked well in the past. Brian Cressman might also be able to provide an after-school science program in Dicken Woods, and he will work with school on this.

4. Number of meetings per year:
The By-Laws indicate that we have 2 meetings per year. Our 501(c)3 status requires only one per year. The group decided to continue meeting 2 times per year, in the spring and fall. The spring meeting will include electing officers.

5. Officers for 2012-13:
We will keep the current officers until next spring.

6. Steering Committee:
We have a list of current members and will see if others interested in joining.

7. Fall meeting date:
Monday, September 24, 7 pm. Deb Norbotten will call the school to set it up. Alternate dates are September 17 or 27 if the 24th isn't available.

8. Budget:
We now have $5,788.38 after paying for the Winter Walk, new trees, and miscellaneous expenses. FoDW received $201.76 from Max & Erma's fundraiser.

9. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm after a motion by Mary, seconded by Brian.

Minutes by Debbie Johnson.
